Day 1

Paro Arrival and Transfer to Thimphu

Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be warmly received by your tour guide and embark on a scenic one-hour drive to Thimphu, the charming capital of Bhutan. After checking into your hotel and settling in, your afternoon unfolds with visits to some of Thimphu’s most iconic landmarks. Begin at KuenselPhodrang, home to the majestic Buddha Dordenma statue overlooking the valley, followed by the serene National Memorial Chorten, a place of daily devotion for locals. Continue to the Takin Preserve, where you’ll encounter Bhutan’s rare and symbolic national animal, and conclude your day at a vibrant local craft bazaar, showcasing traditional Bhutanese artistry and handmade treasures.

Thimphu Tshechu Festival in Tashichho Dzong

The Thimphu Tshechu Festival is held annually in mid-September, a time widely regarded as one of the best seasons to visit Bhutan. This vibrant festival draws numerous visitors each year. As part of your journey, you will visit Tashichho Dzong, the central venue for the celebrations, where you can witness sacred religious rituals, traditional mask dances, and join locals dressed in their colourful national attire.

Thimphu Tshechu Festival Celebration Continues

The celebration continues at Tashichho Dzong, where you can immerse yourself in the Tshechu’s vibrant atmosphere. Today offers a rich display of sacred mask dances and traditional performances. It’s a wonderful opportunity to witness Bhutanese families in their finest attire, gathered in joy and devotion—sharing laughter, faith, and delicious local cuisine.

You may also explore some of Thimphu’s historic sites, such as Changangkha Lhakhang, one of the city’s oldest monasteries. Alternatively, take a stroll through the Centenary Farmers Market to experience the colourful energy and flavours of Bhutan’s local produce and culture.

Day 4

Transfer to Punakha for Sightseeing

Today, your journey continues to Punakha, the serene former capital of Bhutan, renowned for its natural beauty and deep historical significance. Along the way, pause at the stunning Dochula Pass (3,100m), where, on a clear day, you’ll be rewarded with sweeping views of the snow-capped Himalayan peaks. The 108 chortens that crown the pass stand as a tribute to Bhutanese valor and spiritual devotion.

Upon arrival in Punakha—Bhutan’s seat of power until 1955—you will explore landmarks that reflect the kingdom’s spiritual and cultural richness. Begin with a visit to Chimi Lhakhang, the revered Temple of Fertility, dedicated to the eccentric saint Lama Drukpa Kunley. Then, marvel at the architectural grandeur of Punakha Dzong, majestically situated at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers.
