Day 1

Arrival in Paro and City History Tour

  • Altitude: Paro (2,200 m)
  • Activity: Upon arrival, your guide will welcome you and take you on a half-day cultural tour of Paro. Visit the impressive Paro Dzong, a fortress-monastery guarding the valley, and the National Museum housed in the historic Ta Dzong watchtower. This tour provides a fascinating introduction to Bhutanese heritage and architecture.

Ta Dzong (2,200 m) to Jili Dzong (3,300 m)

  • Ascent: ~1,100 m
  • Descent: Minimal
  • Approximate Hiking Time: 5–6 hours
  • Description: Today marks the beginning of your trek. You’ll ascend through pine and rhododendron forests, crossing ridges with stunning views of the Paro Valley and surrounding Himalayan peaks. Jili Dzong, an ancient fortress ruin perched on a ridge, offers a perfect campsite with tranquil mountain ambiance.
  • Overnight: Camping at Jili Dzong

Jili Dzong (3,300 m) to Jangchhu (3,850 m)

  • Ascent: ~550 m
  • Descent: Minimal
  • Approximate Hiking Time: 5 hours
  • Description: Continue trekking along gently rising paths through alpine meadows scattered with wildflowers in spring. The trail weaves through small villages and pristine forests. Jangchhu campsite is surrounded by breathtaking mountain scenery and is ideal for stargazing on clear nights.
  • Overnight: Camping at Jangchhu

Jangchhu (3,850 m) to JimilangTsho (3,870 m)

  • Ascent: ~100 m
  • Descent: ~80 m
  • Approximate Hiking Time: 4–5 hours
  • Description: Today’s trek leads you to the sacred JimilangTsho, a glacial lake revered by locals for its spiritual significance. The trail passes through rhododendron forests and open meadows, offering stunning reflections of surrounding peaks on the lake’s clear waters. Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere as you camp beside this pristine natural wonder.
  • Overnight: Camping near JimilangTsho

JimilangTsho (3,870 m) to Simkotra (3,400 m)

  • Ascent: ~150 m (minor ups and downs)
  • Descent: ~470 m
  • Approximate Hiking Time: 5–6 hours
  • Description: Descend through lush rhododendron and fir forests on your way to Simkotra, a beautiful and quiet campsite with panoramic views of the Himalayan range. The trail’s gentle descents provide a welcome respite and opportunities to spot native wildlife and birds.

Overnight: Camping at Simkotra

Simkotra (3,400 m) to Phajoding (3,780 m)

  • Ascent: ~380 m
  • Descent: Minimal
  • Approximate Hiking Time: 5 hours
  • Description: Ascend once more through mixed forests to Phajoding Monastery, one of Bhutan’s oldest and most sacred religious sites. Spend time exploring the monastery’s beautiful architecture and meditation halls before settling in for the night surrounded by spiritual tranquility.
  • Overnight: Camping near Phajoding

Phajoding (3,780 m) to Motithang, Thimphu (2,350 m)

  • Ascent: Minimal
  • Descent: ~1,430 m
  • Approximate Hiking Time: 5–6 hours
  • Description: Descend steeply into the Thimphu Valley, passing through terraced fields and small villages. Your trek concludes at Motithang, near Bhutan’s bustling capital, where you can enjoy a comfortable hotel stay and reflect on your rewarding journey through Bhutan’s wilderness.

Thimphu In-Depth City Sightseeing Tour

  • Altitude: Thimphu (2,350 m)
  • Activity: Spend a full day exploring Bhutan’s vibrant capital city. Visit cultural landmarks such as the Memorial Chorten, Buddha Dordenma statue, Tashichho Dzong, and local handicraft markets. Immerse yourself in Bhutanese life and traditions.

Bhutan Departure – Transfer to Paro Airport
